Before he was an A-list film star, Leguizamo broke into the cut-throat entertainment industry as a stand-up comic working the New York City nightclub scene.

As a stand-up comedian, Leguizamo is know for his high-energy, feisty performances, his subject matter a mixture of ethnic comedy and autobiographical material, often of uncertain authenticity. He's perfected his one-man performances to such a standard in fact, that he's taken his show to much more formal stages. In 1998 he performed in the solo show 'Freak' on Broadway , a production which was directed by Spike Lee and won Leguizamo a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding One-Person Show.
