Born in Damascus, Syria, Assala inherited her musicality from her father, the composer Mostafa Nasri. She exploded onto the pan-Arab music scene with her 1991 breakthrough album Law Ta’rafou. Her discography features over twenty studio albums with plenty of chart-topping Arab-pop anthems, and in 2019 she collaborated with the likes of Avril Lavigne, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, and others, on the official song for the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
